The lighting plan: four types of lighting

The value of lighting in the home is still often underestimated by most people. The lighting points you choose can make or break your interior, it determines the atmosphere in your home. To ensure that you will not be sitting in the dark because you lack a light point, it is wise to make a lighting plan. In it you decide in advance where and what kind of lighting you want to place where in your house. A good thing about making such a plan is that it makes choosing lighting, lamps and fixtures a lot easier.

Function of space

The lighting plan always takes into account the function of the space. You need to know what the space is used for in order to determine what lighting you need for it. For cooking, reading and working you need different lighting than when the function of the room is to watch television, sleep or relax. In the lighting plan, you distinguish between four types of lighting: general lighting, work lighting, accent lighting and decorative lighting. By distinguishing the types of lighting, you will know exactly which lamps you need to create a nice atmosphere in your home.

1. General lighting

When you have created your lighting plan, you know exactly where you need general lighting. This general lighting is also called basic lighting. This type of lighting ensures that the room is nicely evenly and diffusely lit. It is important that the light be as unobtrusive and as little shadow as possible, as you want to mimic daylight as much as possible because this provides tranquility. You can achieve this by installing uplighters, for example; these are fixtures where the light shines upward.

2. Work lights

In addition to general lighting, work lighting is also very important to include in your lighting plan. Work lighting is also called functional lighting. You can think of a hanging or ceiling lamp above the dining table, a table lamp on your dining table or a reading or floor lamp next to an armchair or sofa. Because this lighting is often used for functional things as well as all kinds of other purposes, it is nice when this lighting is adjustable or dimmable. When working at the dining table you need more light than when having a romantic dinner for two. ANVIA's retro pendant lamps, table lamps, floor lamps and ceiling lamps all feature dimmable LED light sources. In addition, the retro ceiling lamps, retro table lamps and retro floor lamps from ANVIA are very flexible to use thanks to the adjustable lamp shades.

3. Accent lighting

Accent lighting contributes to an atmospheric interior, so don't forget to include it in your lighting plan. As the name suggests, it is lighting that accentuates something. Think for example of the targeted lighting of objects such as works of art or certain walls with special architectural details. ANVIA's retro wall lights add to these special objects thanks to their characteristic fixtures.

4. Decorative lighting

In decorative lighting or mood lighting, the aesthetic of the fixtures is paramount. So it has more to do with the design and the beautiful effect, than with the functional lighting of a room. Often decorative lamps give little light and stand out because of their design, they are the eye-catchers of your interior.
